Civil War Monument
This is a 6 foot granite monument in the Ames City cemetery. Shrubs were planted behind the monument, making it next to impossible to see the inscription on the back or for anyone to know it exists. This hidden inscription is the photo on the right. The monument was sponsored by the WRC and DUV in 1930. Thanks to Danny Krock for furnishing the wonderful old postcard with the old soldiers - probably at the dedication of the monument in 1930. The cemetery is in the NE part of the city take the entrance at Maxwell and East 9th and the monument is visible on the right. Photos taken 11/15/07.
