Central College Civil War Memorial
When the war broke out in 1861, many male students left college and joined the army. This marble memorial honors the students killed in the war. Four of these students were members of the 3rd Iowa Infantry Regiment and fell at Jackson, Mississippi on July 12, 1863. This memorial is in Central Hall on the Central College campus in Pella. The original memorial was installed shortly after the war but was destroyed in a fire in 1922. This replacement is identical to the original. Photo taken 12/20/10.
