Memorial to Revolutionary War Veteran
This large stone monument with crossed cannons is located in Forest Home Cemetery. The monument is about 8 feet high, 6 feet wide and 2 feet in depth. The front inscription honors Revolutionary War Veteran Charles Shepherd. The bronze cannons are replicas. General George Stone is buried nearby. He was the Colonel of the Iowa 25th Infantry Regiment which included 4 companies from Henry County. To reach the cemetery, take Walnut Street south off Washington Street/Highway 34. Bear right at the entrance the monument is in the central part of the cemetery at the junction where the road branches left and right. Photo taken 1/9/08.
