Civil War Memorial and Cannon
This is a 12 foot obelisk with inscription "Dedicated in memory of unknown dead." The nearby cannon in inverted and has had a crack repaired and is held together with metal straps. It has been painted green but needs to be repainted. It is a 24 pounder flank howitzer, M1844 cast at the Cyrus Alger & Co. foundry. The cemetery is in the NE part of town. Take Fulton Street through the business district to Jensen and then turn east to the cemetery. The monument and cannon are in the center area of the cemetery. The cannon is about 100 feet SE of the monument. Photos taken 5/4/14.
