Civil War Soldier
This is an 18 foot monument in Oakdale Cemetery. It was originally dedicated in 1902 to Civil War and Spanish-American War Veterans by the WRC and Auxilary of the GAR. It was rededicated in 2003 and included a new flag pole, flag and 24 hour light to illuminate the flag. It is located in an industrial/railroad area just SW of downtown. Take 4th Street west to the cemetery. On prior visits, access to the cemetery was not possible as the gate was locked - it was good to see the gate open on my last visit on 9/19/10. The photo of the soldier was taken by Court Stahr on 11/10/03.
