General Grenville M. Dodge Mausoleum
General Dodge is well known as a Civil War general and the engineer who built the Union Pacific Railroad. He lived in Council Bluffs and is buried with his wife Ruth Anne at Walnut Hill Cemetery. He died January 3, 1916 at the age of 84. His funeral was attended by many dignitaries. The cemetery is on the east side of the city - take Highway 6 to North Avenue then turn south one block to E. Pierce Street and follow it to Walnut Hill. The large masoleum is in the center of the cemetery at the top of the hill. A number of family members are buried nearby. The first two photos were taken 9/1/08. The third photo was taken 4/1/11 with members of SUVCW Grenville M. Dodge Camp #75. National SUVCW Commander Brad Schall is wearing the yellow cap.
