Civil War Memorial
This memorial is in Oakland Cemetery in the north section of Sac City. It is an 18 foot obelisk dedicated in 1906. Besides the inscription shown on the south side of the monument in the photo - the east side says ""Soldiers Sailors Citizens" - north side "May the Remembrance of their Valor and Patriotism be Perpetuated" "presented September 1, 1906" - west side "General W T Sherman Post No 284." Go north on 5th Street - after crossing the river, turn left at the 3rd cemetery entrance - then bear right or NW and drive a distance until you come to the monument. The first 2 photos were taken 9/22/21. The final photos were taken 5/4/14 at a monument re-dedication ceremony led by members of the Kinsman SUVCW Camp. This includes a cannon salute by the 2nd Battery Iowa Light Artillery of Sac City.
