Medal of Honor Recipient James John Drury
James Drury (1835-1919) was a Sergeant in the 4th Vermont Infantry Regiment when he was awarded the Medal of Honor for saving the Regimental flag at Petersburg, Virginia on June 24,1864. Born in Ireland, he moved to Iowa in 1867 and farmed in Monroe County until his death in 1919. He is buried in St. Peters Cemetery, a country cemetery SW of Lovilla. Follow W 6th Street out of Lovilla to the cemetery. At the entrance - go left along the fence to the grave marker. Photos taken 11/18/08.
