Medal of Honor Recipient Edward Burson Spalding
Sgt. Spalding (1840-1920) of the Illinois 52nd Infantry was awarded the Medal of Honor for exceptional service during the Battle of Shiloh in Tennessee on April 6, 1862. He was wounded but refused to leave the field and continued to be heavily involved in action during the day. He was a lawyer in Sioux City after the war. He is buried in Floyd Cemetery - take Lewis Blvd. to 7th Street - then turn east to the cemetery. He is buried in Block 183 in the "Stone" section - in the south part of the cemetery.
