Medal of Honor Recipient Andrew E. Goldsbery
Corporal Goldsbery (1840-1910), a member of the 127th Illinois Infantry Regiment, was awarded the Medal of Honor for building a make-shift bridge across a ravine under fire during the charge at Vicksburg on May 22, 1863. He moved from Illinois to Iowa in the 1880's and farmed near Maynard. Long Grove Cemetery is in the SE part of Maynard - follow 1st Street south to the cemetery. At the entrance, the stone is about 50 yards away, slightly to the left. The plaque is mounted on the rear of the stone. There is also a large CW monument located here. Photos taken 9/18/10.
