Medal of Honor Recipient Albert Power
Pvt. Power (1842-1923) was a member of the 3rd Iowa Cavalry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action in the Battle of Pea Ridge, Arkansas on March 7 and 8, 1862. According to his citation, "Under a heavy fire and at great personal risk went to the aid of a dismounted comrade who was surrounded by the enemy, took him up on his own horse, and carried him to a place of safety." He returned to Davis County and farmed near Pulaski until moving to Bloomfield later in life. The IOOF Cemetery is on the north edge of town - just west of Highway 63. The tombstone is in the older section of the cemetery in the SW corner - under a pine tree about 4 rows from both the south and west fences. The marker is behind the family stone. Photos taken 3/4/09.
