Civil War Memorial
This monument was erected by the WRC. The inscription reads,"In memory of our noble dead of 1861-1865 who are buried in unknown graves." This is located at the Merle Hay Cemetery in Glidden. Merle Hay, a native of Glidden, was the first Iowan and one of the first three USA soldiers who died in World War I on November 3, 1917 in France. The cemetery is located NW of Glidden on Highway 30. Thank you to Steve Hanken for the notification and the excellent photo of this monument.

On 5/3/14, four additional photos were added - this includes an attractive veterans monument erected in 2009 with a section listing Civil War soldiers from the area. There is also an older monument honoring Merle Hay.
