Colonel David Henderson Burial
Col. Henderson was noted for his service in the Civil War and later for serving as Speaker of the House of Representatives. He was a Lieutenant in the Iowa 12th and was wounded at Ft. Donelson and Corinth, where his foot had to be amputated. Later he was appointed Colonel of the Iowa 46th at the age of 24. He was a 10 term Congressman from Iowa and served as Speaker of the House from 1899-1903. There are two statues of him in Fayette County - see the listing for Fayette County. He is buried in Linwood Cemetery in Dubuque with this large stone with a Scottish Cross. At the entrance to Linwood Cemetery, take Kruse Drive - the stone is to the right of Kruse Drive just past the Day Mausoleum. Linwood Cemetery is off Windsor Avenue in the north central part of the City. The first photo was taken 6/17/17 the others on 10/27/09.
