Asa Turner Tombstone
Asa Turner enlisted in the 8th Iowa Infantry at age 18 on September 28, 1861. He was discharged as a Sgt. on April 27, 1864 and promoted to an officer in the 52nd U. S. Colored Troops. This has been included due to the inscription of a Civil War soldier on the tombstone which is very unusual. Thanks to SUVCW member Danny Krock for his photo and passing on this interesting memorial. It is located in the Maxwell Cemetery on the north side of town - take Main Street north to the cemetery. The tombstone is east of the CW monument and close to the road. Photo taken 8/26/10.
