Georgia Wade McClellan Memorial
Georgia Wade McClellan was the sister of Jennie Wade, the only civilian killed at the Battle of Gettysburg. Georgia served as an Army Nurse during the War. She and her husband, John Lewis McClellan, moved to Denison, Iowa after the War where Georgia became a leader of the Women's Relief Corps, both in Iowa and on a national level. She led a campaign to erect a statue of Jennie in Gettysburg's historic Evergreen Cemetery - see monument listing under Pennsylvania. This memorial to Georgia and John was dedicated June 29, 2013 at their gravesite in Denison in conjunction with the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. Great Great Granddaugher Gretchen Triplett, also a member of the WRC, made a presentation at the ceremony. Members of the SUVCW, along with the Amercian Legion and Boy Scouts, conducted the dedication ceremony. Also shown are the large number of family members who attended.

The memorial is located in Oakland Cemetery south of Denison. On Highway 30 turn south on South Main which will take you to the Cemetery. Turn at the main entrance with two pillars - the gravesite and memorial are on the left. Photos taken 6/29/13 and 5/9/18.
