Last Soldier John Gager Memorial
John Thurston Gager (1840-1939) was the last Civil War Soldier in Fayette County. He was a member of Co. B, 105th Illinois Infantry. See the obituary below for much more information. The Last Soldier plaque was installed and the ceremony honoring him were held September 10, 2005 at Bethel Cemetery in NW Fayette County. Between West Union and Fredericksburg on Highway 18, take V Avenue north one mile to the cemetery.
