Cedar Rapids Civil War Cannons
These wonderful old photos show 2 Parrott cannons in Cedar Rapids. They were decommissioned U. S. Army cannons from Fort Hancock in New Jersey and installed in Cedar Rapids in 1900. These cannons are now gone - melted for scrap for World War II in the fall of 1942. The first photo shows the cannon in Bever Park located in the east central section of the city. The second and third photos are the same cannon from different angles in Greene Square in downtown Cedar Rapids. Thanks to Danny Krock for providing copies of the two postcards. Also thanks to Edie Hunter for the third photo and providing very helpful historical information.
