Last soldier Charles Hester
Private Charles Hester was the last living soldier of Warren County. He died June 28, 1944 at the age of 98. He was a member of Company I, 148th Illinois Infantry. Members of the SUVCW held a ceremony and placed a plaque on June 4, 2017. Shown in photo are Dan Rittel, Marilyn Rittel, Ron Rittel, Danny Krock, Mike Rowley and Tom Gaard. The IOOF Cemetery is on the south side of town on Hwy 65/69. The tombstone is in the NW section of the cemetery - take the gravel road on the north edge of cemetery to the Hornaday stone on edge of road - then left to the Hester stone. Photos taken 6/4/17.
