Last Soldier Harvey A. Bloomfield
Corporal Bloomfield was the last living soldier of Monroe County. While he lived in Albia in Monroe County, he was buried at Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa in Mahaska County. He was 98 when he died January 10, 1940. He served in Company G, 21st Missouri Infantry. The SUVCW honored him with a ceremony and a plaque on June 4, 2017. Members of the SUVCW and Auxiliary are shown below. The location of the Bloomfield stone is lodged between the Jones and Cosby stones and is difficult to find. It is in section 4 along the west edge of Forest Cemetery. To locate the Cemetery, take Avenue A/Highway 92 to N 9th Street - then north to the Cemetery. Photos taken 6/4/17.
