Last Soldier John Tyler Palmer
Private John Palmer (1844-1942) was the last living soldier of Guthrie County. He served in Company G of the 51st Wisconsin Infantry. On August 26, 2017 a ceremony was held at Highland Cemetery conducted by members of the SUVCW that included descendants of John Palmer. The final photo shows members of the SUVCW, descendants of John Palmer and members of the Bayard American Legion. The SUVCW, Iowa Department, is recognizing the Last Soldier of each Iowa County. The cemetery is located south of Bayard on Juniper Avenue. The photos were taken 8/26/17.
