Last Soldier John M. Gudgel
Private John Gudgel (1847-1947) was the last living soldier of Page County and one of the last living ones in the state. He served in Company K, 148th Illinois Infantry. There was a ceremony to place a marker and honor him on October 15, 2017. The photo shows members of the SUVCW Kinsman Camp and American Legion members attending the ceremony. This included a WWII Veteran. Rose Hill Cemetery is on the east side of town - follow Sheridan east to the T intersection - then go left on Carter to the cemetery. The gravesite is NE of the flag and monument. Photos taken 10/15/17.
