Last Soldier Andrew N. Brones
Private Andrew Brones (1845-1933) was the last living soldier of Winnebago County. He was born in Norway and served in Company I of the 43rd Wisconsin Infantry. His brother, Olavus, died as a POW at Andersonville. On October 20, 2017, SUVCW members Danny Krock, Dan Green and Dan McGuire placed a Last Soldier marker at the gravesite in Oakland Cemetery in Forest City. The cemetery is on the north side of Forest City off Highway 69. The gravesite is in the SW section of the cemetery. Photo taken 10/20/17.
