Last Soldier William A. Marther
Private William Marther (1846-1937) was the last living soldier in Pocahontas County. He served in Company H, 8th Iowa Infantry. On October 20, 2017, members of the SUVCW Dodge Camp placed a Last Soldier marker and held a ceremony honoring Private Mather. He is buried in Clinton-Garfield Cemetery on the SE corner of Rolfe at 470th Street and 300th Avenue. Photo taken 10/20/2017.
