Last Soldier John C. Bonwell
Sergeant John Bonwell (1842-1943) was the last living soldier of Audubon County. He served in Company A, 175th Ohio Infantry Regiment. Members of Kinsman Camp #23 conducted a ceremony and placed a marker to honor Sergeant Bonwell on April 28, 2018. The 100 year old Sergeant Bonwell was buried in the Viola Center Cemetery. It is on Pheasant Avenue just north of 130th Street. Thanks to Dan Rittel (pictured) for sending photos and information.
