Last Soldier John Drain
John Drain (1844-1940) was the last living soldier of Lee County. He served in Company A, 67th U. S. Colored Infantry. He was an escaped slave from Missouri who joined the Union Army and saw action in engagements along the Mississippi River. He attended the 75th Anniversary Reunion at Gettysburg in 1938. He is buried in historic Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk - Plot L2-00-41. Take S 19th Street south off Main Street to the Cemetery.
