Last Soldier Charles W. Mills
Private Charles Mills (1848-1938) was the last living soldier of Mitchell County. He served in Company I, 98th New York Infantry Regiment. He enlisted at age 16 in the later days of the war and was stationed guarding Confederate prisoners in New York. The plaque for Pvt. Mills was placed on 6/13/19 by Roy Linn. Thanks to Roy for the photo and information. A copy of an article of his wedding anniversary is also included. The location of his gravesite is Lot #1011 in the Osage City Cemetery at North 2nd Street.
