Last Soldier William Gange
Private William Gange (1837-1940) was the last living soldier of Floyd County. He served in Company I, 5th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment. His regiment fought in the east and he was present at the surrender at Appomattox. Roy Linn placed the Last Soldier Marker on June 19, 2019 and provided the photo and information. Private Gange, 102 year old, is buried at Riverside Cemetery in NW Charles City, in Section 13, Row 7, Grave 4.
