Last Soldier Levi L. Conner
Levi Conner (1846-1937) was the last living soldier of Franklin County. He was a Musician in Company C, 172nd Ohio Infantry Regiment. He came to Hampton in 1866 and worked as a carpenter. According to his obituary, he was the life of the party at GAR encampments where he would play his fife and dance a jig. He also played with the Civil War Drum Corps at the State Fair for many years. Thanks to Roy Linn for placing the last soldier marker on June 28, 2019 and providing the photo and information. The location is in the Hampton Cemetery, Evergreen Section, Lot 131.
