Last Soldier William H. Earnest
Private William H. Earnest (1848-1945) was the last living soldier of Wayne County. In the spring of 1864, at the age of 15, he served in the 150th Ohio Infantry Regiment for 100 days. He enlisted again in 1865 and served 9 months in Company D of the 189th Ohio Infantry Regiment. After the War, he studied medicine and moved to Seymour in 1871 to start a very successful medical practice. Dr. Earnest is buried in Southlawn Cemetery located on the south edge of Seymour.
