Last Soldier Frederick P. Pettygrove
Private Frederick Pettygrove (1840-1938) was the last living soldier of Clay County. He was buried in Chickasaw County and is listed under both counties. He served in Company C, 2nd Wisconsin Infantry Regiment. According to GAR records he enlisted in April, 1861 and was wounded at Gaines' Mill and Antietam. He is buried in the New Hampton Cemetery (also known as Graceland Cemetery). Thanks to Danny Krock for placing the Last Soldier marker on September 1, 2019 and providing the photo.
