Cannons in State Historical Museum of Iowa
There was a wonderful Civil War exhibit called “Honor the Colors” in the Museum. This exhibit was taken down in May, 2008. The John Brown cannon is in storage but the other two were relocated to the Ist Floor of the Museum. This includes a 12 pounder bronze Napoleon, M1857, cast at Revere Copper Co. in 1863 and an 8 inch siege mortar, M1861. The other cannon was used by John Brown to train his supporters in Springdale in Cedar County. This is a possible Ellsworth cannon. The Museum is at 600 East Locust west of the State Capital. Photos taken 11/20/07.
