Rodman Cannons in Weed Park
There are two 10 inch Rodman guns, M1861 in Weed Park. The south one, shown in the first photo, was cast at Fort Pitt Foundry in 1866. It is numbered 655 and weighs 15,000 pounds. The north one, shown in the second photo, was built at Seyfert, McManus & Co. of Reading, PA. in 1864. It is numbered 69 and weighs 15,092 pounds. Both are aimed toward the Mississippi River. The inscription on the cannon mount of the south one shows they were placed in this position in 1910. There is also a bronze Gettysburg Address plaque nearby. Weed Park, 1 Park Drive, is a very nice park in a residential area. Take Park Drive off Highway 22. The cannons are to the right just past the entrance. Photos taken 1/9/07.
