Landsman McWilliams (1842-1900) served on the USS Pontoosuc during the battle at Fort Fisher, NC. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for actions from December 24, 1864 to February 22, 1865. He was wounded severely but served with gallentry, skill and coolness. After the war, he moved to Ida County and farmed, served as County Treasurer and County Surveyor. The Ida Grove Cemetery is NE of town - take Father Dailey Drive and the cemetery is off to the right. The burial site is in the SE part - look for the red granite stone. Photos taken 2/24/09.
