Civil War Monument
This is a 12 foot granite monument with inscriptions of soldiers around the monument. The inscriptions under "In Southern Graves" include soldiers in the 4th and 29th Iowa Infantry Regiments. There are also inscriptions listed as "Died since the War." The base of the monument had broken up and was wonderfully restored. On June 3, 2017, the monument was re-dedicated by the the Camp Guard of the SUVCW Kinsman Camp and Corning American Legion Post. The final photo includes family members of soldiers listed on the monument. This is located in Oakland Cemetery near Carbon and on the site of Quincy (which no longer exists). About one mile east of Carbon, take Hickory Avenue south for about 1/2 mile and the cemetery is to the right or west of the road. The monument is in the north section of the cemetery. Photos taken 6/3/17.
