Last Soldier William Humphreys
William Humphreys and Robert Killen were the last two Civil War Soldiers in Lucas County. Both died on January 25, 1941 and both are being recognized as the last soldier. William Humphreys was a member of Company A, 119th Ohio Infantry Regiment. He was honored on August 23, 2014 with a plaque at his gravesite in Mount Zion Cemetery north of Chariton. Persons in the photo include SUVCW member Mike Rowley who led the ceremony, Frank Myers, President of the Lucas County Historical Society, Terin Dittmer, and Don Garrett of the American Legion. The cemetery is in a beautiful setting on County Road S23 at 553rd Street. The gravesite is at the entrance to the cemetery. Photos taken 8/23/14.
